Smaila AMOANU

The genesis of my intense interest in education, which has now evolved into an aspiration and a pursuit for a career in the field, occurred during my secondary school days. As a student of Arts with Mathematics, I considered myself fortunate to have encountered a noble and intelligent mentor named Sir Ebenezer Okyere, who is now in the UK. He greatly inspired me to realize my potential in mathematics and computing, and how best I can competently contribute in the field. The academic achievements I made in secondary school, including being crowned the overall outstanding student of the 2017 graduating class, accelerated my interest significantly, a factor responsible for my strong desire to pursue higher education. Besides making meaningful contributions to society through research and teaching, I believe education will also provide me with the requisite knowledge and skills to support industrial growth and productivity through research and innovation. Furthermore, upon realizing the importance of statistics and mathematics in the twenty-first century, my interest in pursuing further education in mathematics or statistics after undergraduate studies has increased significantly. Currently, I aim to delve deeper into biostatistics and statistical machine learning, with applications in both industries and academia. Becoming a professor in the field to educate countless students and working in industries are my topmost goals.
