Moustapha graduated from Université Gaston Berger in Saint-Louis, Senegal, in 2004. As the top graduating student that year, he was selected for the diploma program in mathematics at the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy. In Trieste, he also passed the very competitive and prestigious International School for Advanced Studies (ISAS/SISSA) entrance examination in 2006 and started his PhD under the supervision of Professor Andrea Malchiodi in the field of geometric analysis.

After defending his PhD in 2009, he was an assistant at the Université catholique de Louvain in Louvain-La-Neuve in Belgium from 2009-2010. In 2010, he became a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Goethe-Universität Frankfurt followed by a postdoctoral position at the Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca.

In terms of research, Moustapha started in applied mathematics namely fluid mechanics and solid mechanics. Eventually, he moved into pure mathematics namely geometric analysis which links partial differential equations and differential geometry. Among others, applications can be found in shape optimisation, quantum mechanics, and image analysis. Moustapha believes mathematics can help you understand your surroundings therefore allowing problem solving of important challenges ranging from optimising resources in construction to conserving fish stocks, forests and other natural resources.

Since January 2013, holds the endowed Chair in Mathematics and its Applications at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Senegal, which is funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. He has also been a Simons Associate at ICTP for 6 years. At his age, he has already published 30 research papers in international mathematics and physics journals and among the very few African reviewers of internationally renowned mathematics journals. He is also a member of several international scientific boards and sought out speaker at international mathematics conferences.

The Humboldtian  Mouhamed Moustapha FALL  is the endowed Chair in Mathematics and its Applications at AIMS-Senegal funded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His research interests are: linear-nonlinear Partial Differential equations, with a particular focus on free boundary Constant Mean curvatures hypersurfaces; Isoperimetric inequalities involving perimeter and eigenvalues on Riemannian manifolds; Hardy and Hardy-Sobolev inequalities; qualitatives properties of (relativistic) Schrödinger equations and over determined problems.
